Following a joint Shabbat service that took place a few months earlier; Leeds Jewish Housing Association and Masorti have, once again, come together to celebrate this years Tu B’shvat;  New Year for Trees.

LJHA was approached by Masorti Leeds to see if a tree planting ceremony could take place with members of the Masorti congregation and residents of Leeds Jewish Housing Association, which LJHA were delighted to accept and host.

Last Sunday, 28th January, the event took place with residents and visitors alike braving the blustery conditions to mark this wonderful occasion.  A cherry tree was planted in the joint communal gardens of Skyte House and Sheila Saunders Lawn with young and old coming together for the ceremony.

Vice Chair, Jayne Wynick, who attended the ceremony remarked;

“The event showed that the community can ‘branch out’ and work collaboratively.  Age is not a barrier but the event showed that the ‘roots’ of the community are strong and multi-generational work creates positivity for all.”

 Following the ceremony guests and residents came together for tea and cake and discussions commenced regarding future events together.

Interim CEO, Craig Simons expressed how pleased was delighted with the intergenerational event and  expressed his thanks

“LJHA would like to thank Masorti for approaching Leeds Jewish Housing Association in this way and we hope that this event ‘sows the seeds’ for more events in the future.”
